I created a purely image-based book that allows your child to narrate their own exciting story that can change every time they read it. As the main character, Pepe, takes them through the streets of Florence where they will experience everything from gelato and carousels to moped rides and sunset views. At the end, there is a glossary with Italian words and translations to help teach your child the language and allow for a more stimulating conversation about Florence, Italy.
Creative Process
Like most of my projects, this book started with pencil and paper. It was important to me to explore compositions before starting to illustrate digitally. After the storyline sketches (seen below) were completed, I established a color palette and thoroughly developed the main character, Pepe. Along the way, I decided to incorporate some photo collage elements to add a little unexpected flair to some of the spreads.
